Survival Guide for Linux Hams

This is a bit of old news, but since it’s now available publicly, I suppose it’s a good time to post about my recent article in the January 2010 issue of Linux Journal.  I was approached late last year to write an article for a “Ham Radio” edition of the magazine.  There was no particular topic, so I suggested an “Amateur Radio Survival Guide for Linux Users” to explore a few common things that Windows users might take for granted.  I covered a little bit about basic contest logging, TCP/IP over packet radio, D-STAR, APRS, amateur satellite tracking, and SDR.  The goal was to provide some starting points for a Linux user that might be a new ham, but it would also interest existing hams that are looking to move to Linux for some of their operating activities.

I should also mention that I got some valuable proofing from Jason, NT7S prior to submission.  Thanks Jason!
