The Linux UVC driver project aims to support USB Video Class devices much like usb-storage supports USB Storage class devices. I checked out the source from the subversion repository and built it on Ubuntu. This required installing the subversion, and build-essential packages.
Loading the module in rc.local provided a quick fix, and it works great!
